Our Lady of Good Help Church sponsors two Scouting programs for boys.  Cub Scouting is for boys in first through fifth grades.  Boy Scouting is for boys aged 11 through 17.  The scout program offers programs for each age group, but boys can join at any time.  A boy does not have to be a Tiger Cub to join Cub Scouts.  A boy does not have to be in Cub Scouting to join the Boy Scouts.
The aims of Scouting are:
 blue bullet  To build character
  blue bullet  To foster citizenship
  blue bullet  To develop fitness

 

A program for boys 11 through 17 designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster.  Boys also may become Boy Scouts if they have completed the fifth grade.  Our Boy Scout troop is Troop 102, Mapleville.  The Troop meets on Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM in the church hall.  Monthly outdoor activities include camping, canoeing, mountain climbing, backpacking, biking, trail conservation and hiking.  Summer camp and a high adventure program for older boys are parts of the program.

Purpose of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA)

 

The Boy Scouts of America provides a program for community organizations that offers effective character, citizenship, and personal fitness training for youth. Specifically, the BSA endeavors to develop American citizens who are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness; have personal values based on religious concepts; have the desire and skills to help others; understand the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental systems; are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American heritage and understand our nationšs role in the world; have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people; and are prepared to participate in and give leadership to American society.
