Saturday hours will be 10:00 am to 11:00 am.The OLGH food pantry opened in August of 1999. It is run by the OLGH St. Vincent de Paul Society and is available to anyone who lives in the towns of Burrillville and Glocester. You must have proof of residency and are in need. During a typical year, the food pantry will register over 200 families, which represents over 600 persons, 10,000+ lbs of food for each opening. Food is distributed in the mornings, in the school cellar for the elderly between 10 am and 11 am and during the evening hours from 6 pm to 7:30 pm for all other customers. A large assortment of food items is always available. This will usually consists of frozen meats, paper products, cleaning supplies, pastas, juices, soups, and extensive Variety of canned goods. The pantry is run on a "client choice" basis. This means that the customers are given shopping carts and numbers representing their family size. They will then be able to chose "what they want" from items available to them. This ensures that they get what they need and what they want at all times. The food pantry provides Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, while also having a Memorial Day weekend "Welcome to Summer" giveaway. Financial donations from the OLGH needy collection and food collections from weekend masses provide a large source of help for the food pantry. It takes over 30 volunteers to run the food pantry. They include workers who order the foods, collect the food items, stack shelves, help give away the food and clean up afterwards. This is truly a parish affair which focuses upon giving help to those in need in our community.
